Most go to Canada per the Student Pathway to Permanent Residency. The general plan is as follows:
1. go to school full-time and work part-time (maximum of 20 hours per week)
2. after graduation, apply for a post-graduate work permit, then accumulate work experience
3. submit a profile in the express entry pool
4. get an invitation to apply for permanent residence
5. get PR application approved
6. apply for citizenship after meeting residency obligations and other requirements
There are those who are stuck in the express entry pool and never get an invitation to apply for permanent residence because they are 45 years old or older (0 points for age) thereby not meeting the cut-off scores for an invitation to apply for PR. Is this you? Well, you have an option such as moving to a province that can nominate you for Permanent Residency, thereby giving you an extra 600 points that will guarantee an invitation to apply from Canada.
One of those provinces is Newfoundland Labrador. If you have an open work permit that is valid for another year or more, you can go to that province, secure a job offer, work for at least three months, then apply for nomination with the Newfoundland Labrador Provincial Government.
