Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker

The Canadian government launched this pilot program on June 18, 2019, after they closed the Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) to new applicants. In order to meet the needs of Canadian families, the Canadian government replaced the LCP with the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker program. This pilot program is another option that allows you to come to Canada and become a permanent resident or work temporarily as a caregiver or home support worker.

One of the major differences between this program and the LCP is that employers in Canada do not need to apply for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) in order for them to hire a foreign worker. As long as the employer has a valid and genuine offer, they can hire a caregiver through this pilot program. This, of course, presupposes that the caregiver meets the eligibility requirements. What are the eligibility requirements? The caregiver must meet the following:

- They have a valid and genuine job offer - They are able to perform and do the job - They meet the education requirement - They meet the language requirement - They are not inadmissible to Canada - They plan to live in Canada (except Quebec) as a permanent resident The applicant must also have past experience of the job (caregiver or home support worker) that meet the NOC job descriptions for NOC 4411 – Home child care provider or NOC 4412 – Home support worker. They must have a completed post-secondary education credential equivalent to at least 1 year in Canada. That means your education in your home country is equivalent to at least a 1-year post-secondary school in Canada.
