Provincial Nominee Programs - An Option if Express Entry is Not!

What are the similarities between the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program and the Nova Scotia Nominee Program?

  1. Both programs require a job offer from a provincial employer.

  2. Both programs require a minimum high school education (Canadian equivalent).

  3. Both programs require language proficiency (usually CLB 4 for TEER 4 and TEER 5 job offers and CLB 5 for TEER 3, 2, or 1 job offers.

  4. Both programs require applicants to have job experience in the same occupation being offered.

  5. Both programs require proof of intention to live in the province.

What are the differences?

  1. OINP is a points systems-based program. You need to wait for an invitation to apply for nomination before you can submit a PR nomination application. NSNP is not. You can immediately apply for nomination if you have met all eligibility and document requirements.

  2. OINP is not free. You pay $1500 (outside the GTA) or $2000 (inside the GTA) for the nomination application. NSNP is free. There are no government fees.

  3. OINP usually requires 2 years of work experience in the position that is being offered to the Candidate. NSNP only requires 1 year of experience.
